Production

 Filming our Film

During this and the last week, we have been shooting and recording our shots to get our film together. Some of the shots that we shoot will be presented in our final project's video. We went to different locations, used different devices, and shots, this is our progress into getting everything together.

Technology

During our process, the technology that we used was our phone's camera. With the technological advancement that our phone's have, we were able to use it to get all of our shots and have the results that we wanted. Using production technologies taught me the different settings and the variety of ways I can use technology to get the final product that I need. To construct our shots and to film we had to learn from one another and did not consult any sources outside of our group members.

Influenced

Which recording we needed some examples so we could get our shots exactly how it's supposed to be, the camera shot, the camera angle etc..

This picture was one of our inference used to get this close up shot.

The process

While trying to film, we've had some fun times and some bloopers. So here's some of our shots for a little laugh.

Difficulties

While trying to get everything together and all of our shots, we had encounter some minor difficulties which some we were able to fix and the other's we worked around it. When shooting the actors had some issues with staying in character and acting correctly, but after some breaks here and there and some retakes we were able to get everything back together.

Some of the difficulties weren't really difficult, they were moments of memories, laughter, and amusements. We had fun filming our shots and some ha-ha moments and fun learning experiences.

Revisions

After filming and looking at what we got, we might have to make some changes and correction proceeding our final project but with the amount of time we have even when it's not a lot, we think we might be able to get everything together.

About Our Group

 The members

As of today we had 4 group members: Clay Valcin, Brianna Scott, David Stephens, and Gissela Pinto. However, we were just informed that Gissela would be leaving the school which means she will no longer be in our group. Therefore we now have 3 people in our group, we are all okay with that and decided to continue with the work that needs to be put in to complete the final project. The work that we had that was split into 4 will be now split into 3 which means more work for us as a group but we are doing all necessary to do our work and have the best work of our abilities.

Preproduction

During this week and part of my project, I will be putting everything that my group members and I need to start shooting. In doing this we will be finding out or doing the followings: scouting locations, storyboarding, casting actors, planning how the film will look and what it will represent, and writing our shooting schedule for the following week. In this blog post it will mention all the preparations into the preproduction of our film and the way we would be doing it.

Locations

Our film will be shot in an Ice cream shop and a library. The Ice cream shop will represent something meaningful for both our main characters, it will be the place that they go back to and relive all their childhood memories together. This Ice cream shop will be the place they meet again and when they do, it will create something of importance to them. The Library would be just a place they usually go when they need to study or do something that is school or work related, it will bring back their days in high school and all they've been through during that period of time. Take a pic at the location for the shot of our film.

Actors

In our film we will need two actors to play the two main characters of the film. Our actors will also be some of our group member, Clay Valcin and David Stephens, David and I will be playing in the film. We considered just using actors from our group member's because it will help our filming budget and take less time to prepare since we already know the steps and what we would need to achieve as actors to make our film possible.

Representation

My film will look like your typical romantic-comedy movie, where it comes with the steps that they meet, fall in love, get's into conflict, overcome it, and live happily ever after. This is how most romantic comedy films play out and it is the same idea for my film. My group member's and I will achieve it planning everything beforehand, for example our setting is already established and all the aspects that will follow in the setting.

Sound

In our film we will have dialogue while recording but when we get to editing we will mute the dialogue and will only show their mouth moving assuming that they are talking. We will have some sounds in the back group of the film that will be very calming and happy and goes along with the shots and the scenery of the film. We would use the same requirement we use to record to also record the dialogue but when it gets to adding the background effects and songs we will have a separate device that we will record the sounds from and that would later on be added into the film.

Schedule

Shooting

After finishing this stage, we will start planning and shooting for our film. My group members and I haven't planned or talked about our shooting schedule yet but we will make plans so we will be prepared when the shooting start. In order to begin shooting we would likely need a camera, but for our filming it isn't necessary to have a camera since we are able to use our Smartphone to do it without any trouble.

I have talked with my group members and by the amounts of shots and the things we have to film it will likely only take a week for us to film; 2 days for the Ice cream shots scenes and 1 to 2 days for the library shots. We might need some extra time to film any things that is missing but at the end of that week we should be done with everything we have to film.

This is the schedule we've came up with in order to be have enough time to shoot all of our scenes and get everything we needed in time.

Storyboard

We recently started our story board this week on Monday, our storyboard will look like a more detailed description of how the shots of the film are going to look like. It will involve a picture of the shot, the camera movement, shot, transitions, and more about each particular shots.

We're not done with our storyboard yet but this is what we have so far for our storyboard.

This is our final storyboard for the film opening.

Script

After having our short story, we needed to write a script on all the shots and the actions that would be happening during the film sequence.

Production companies

Introduction to production

To make a general movie, it comes with the challenges and the details to put it out. In the making of a movie you need to figure out how the movie will be financed and produced. The finance would go into hiring, casting, shooting, renting, working, planning and all cost that will be needed to make the movie.

There are many steps that goes into the production of a film and how the film is produced.

1) Development: That is the first step into film production, in this first step includes all the process that goes into the film, the ideas, the research, script, thinking, and all the development that will go into the film.

2) Pre-Production: After developing your ideas for the film you will go into the second step of production, pre-production. The planning of your film shoot start there, all your crews, and member that will be needed for the film will be established in this step of the production.

3) Production: The production of the film is where everything starts, this is where you start shooting and put everything you had planned in the previous steps into action.

4) Post-production: In the post-production is where you will will do any edits and add, remove any details that were needed for you film. In this step is when the audio and visual materials are cut together to create a film.

5) Distribution: This is the final step in the production, that is when the film has been edited, and it's ready to be distributed into the world. You would need to find a way to advertise your movie and find a company that would produce it, after these are done you would have your movie out and people would be able to see it, it would be in theaters, DVDs, and all kind of digital platforms.

There are different companies that would produce it depending on the genre of your film.

 The Big 6
This is 6 major company that commands about 90% production.
  • Paramount pictures
  • Universal
  • 20th century box
  • Warner bros. pictures
  • Walt Disney
  • Columbia pictures
The Indies
These are 3 independent major studio system that produces film.
  • Summit Entertainment
  • Film 4 production
  • Icon production
The mini-major
3 leading independent majors that are coming up and getting more out there.
  • Dreamworks
  • The weinstein company
  • Lions Gate entertainment

My group members and I will be making a romantic-comedy film and so we have to learn and make research about film productions in romantic comedies.

Production of romantic-comedy

There are a lot of production companies and they usually specialize in the production of one film genre and with my research I've looked to find the production companies that specify in romantic comedies. The companies that specialize in romantic-comedies are Warner Bros, SK Global, Starlight Culture Entertainment, Color Force, Rom-coms pictures and Ivanhoe Pictures with, the one that would be more ideal for producing my film is Warner Bros pictures.

If I had to produce my film I would plan to produce it to a large studio and more preferbly one of the big 6 in the production company and it would be Warner Bros pictures because it is a huge production company who has experiences with romantic comedy and I think they would be the more ideal company to have my filmproduced by.

The production company that produces my film would affect the kind of audience who see's it and how they engage with it, with Warner Bros. pictures it has grown rapidely and fast in the last centeries, it is a very popular production that most people know about, using it would influence audiences based on the way it represent it's beliefs opinions, stereotypes, and attitudes that would grab a audience attention and give them something to think about while watching the film. The production company also has to do with how the movie looks and all the things that would attract an audience to come and engage with that specific film.

With creating a film, you have to figure out a way to put your film out there and convince other companies that your film is worth financing, in other words, find a way to sell your film and make evryone's money back. To do so your film as to meet some requirements that would need to be met: The ideas, development finance, script development, packaging, financing, pre-production, production, post production, sales, marketing, expedition, and other windows. These will determine whether or not your film is worth financing with a production company and the answers to each of thee requirement will differ based on the production company that would would choose to work with. To sell the film productions will need to find ways to give it clout and high level attention to let other's know and be interested in the film and with the trailer of the film is how most of the marketing takes place because the trailer draw a lot of attention to other's and targeted audiences.

There are many type of distribution companies and some of the distribution companies that specialize in my genre are 20th century fox, Universal, Warner Bros, Sony Pictures, Paramount pictures, and Walt disney. These are some of the top distribution companies that specialize in romantic-comedy films and for my romantic comedy film 20th century fox, and Warner Bros would be a good match for my film. With the idea of my film, the story, planning and production they would be the good distributors to have my film distributed by.

Films can be exhibited in numerous ways and they are theatrical and nontheatrical modes of exhibiton and some films are put out there like directly to the public through a movie theater or TV, from personal home viewings such as DVDs, downloads, video-on-demand, Televison programs, broadcasts or movie theater. These are only some of the ways that films can be exhibited and through movie theater is the most popular way that films are exhibited and shown to the audience. For romantic-comedies they are usually exhibitted theatrically and some nontheatrically but for the most part they're exhibitted through a movie theater.

These are forms and some things that goes when thinking of the production of a film.

About Romantic-Comedies

 Romantic-Comedies

Romantic comedies have their way of revealing their movies title where it is representable to them and the viewers. They do this by the type of style, size, font, color, décor, edit etc. They include different kind of information's that could tell you about the movie, how it would play out, and what the overall movie would be about and for my genre the titles usually looks like similar with a pattern going on for each different genre.

Titles

The titles are all rom different kind of romantic-comedy movies. Their titles are all different and looks different, by reading the title of the movie you can already tell some things that are going to happen or happens in the movie, it give you a little bit of  detail about what to expect in the movie. Each of the movies have a different style, color, font, and size here's more detail about each of the movie titles:

The kissing booth: The title is in all bold capitalized letters in pink with the letter "OO's" for booth in hot pink with lips as the "OO's" The color they used for this specific title clearly signifies something that can be predicted about the movie.

Clueless: Black background with white colored text in different sized shapes and font is how the title clueless looks like. The way the title looks goes with the definition of the of the word, it looks out of place and very confused/clueless just like the word. This just shows how the title might give away some details about the movie.

27 dresses: A title with the colors pink and thin font but clearly showing that it is the tille of the movie.
